Venue for hire

Lansdown Hall & Gallery is a fully licensed community venue in Lansdown, close to Stroud town centre. The historic building started life as a temperance hall in 1879 and has had a chequered history since then!

The venue is run by a voluntary, charitable organisation, which leases the building from Stroud Town Council. The Council are committed to refurbishing and improving the building and facilities over the next few years.

There are two rooms available for hire; Lansdown Hall and Lansdown Gallery

Lansdown Hall

Dimensions: 12m x 11m approx floor area.
Accommodates 250 standing / up to 153 sitting. Seating can be arranged in rows or cabaret style with chairs and tables.
Wooden floor.
Adjustable stage, basic measurements: 3.7m d x 4.2m w (at back); thrust at front 7.2m; can increase stage by 2m at front if required.
Lighting rig (lighting set and operated by one of our technicians).
Customer operated sound system (for CD / MP3 playback, customer laptop plug-in and 2 mic channels).
Projector and 16' screen (fixed).
Small dressing room adjoining stage.
Bar situated in one corner of the hall: sale of alcohol by hirers is not permitted.
Disabled access through Bank Gardens to rear of hall and toilet facilities.

The venue is currently licensed until 1:00am for performances, events, parties, wedding receptions and private functions on Friday and Saturday. A manager will be on duty throughout these events and functions. For certain events, door staff will be employed by Lansdown Hall. Please see our hire charge list for details. We can also apply for a Temporary Events Notice, if you would like your event to go on into the wee hours.

At other times the hall can be hired at an hourly rate for events, classes, workshops, meetings etc, subject to availability. Please see our hire charge list for further information and check the workshops page to find out about times that regular classes are already being run.

Lansdown Gallery

The Gallery, a popular exhibition space, is available for hire on a weekly basis (Thursday to Wednesday). It can also be hired outside exhibition hours for smaller events, meetings, rehearsals and workshops.

It measures 12m x 5m approximately and has a wooden floor.

It accommodates 50 standing or up to 40 sitting.
