As a small charity with only one paid member of staff we rely on members of the community to help with the many tasks involved in making this a great venue for hire.

From setting up the stage and hall layout, to office administration and building maintenance, our dedicated band of volunteers is crucial to the smooth running of Lansdown Hall.

Here’s some of the things volunteers get involved in:

Setting out the Hall ready for the various events - sometimes with a full stage, or with the seating in cabaret style -  whatever the layout it’s important that the Hall looks attractive as well as functional.

Helping our technician with the sound and lighting as each event can call for a different set up.  For those particularly interested in learning about the technical side of set up working alongside our very experienced technician can give your knowledge a real boost!

Leaflet and poster distribution.  Advertising events is a crucial ingredient for success and, by keeping our events well advertised and our on-site displays looking good, volunteers can really make a difference.

The Lansdown Hall’s Office is the heart of the venue – nothing would happen without sound, efficient systems and procedures for handling bookings, making sure things happen on time, sorting out the finances etc. The Centre Manager always need help here with reception/ telephone answering and general administration duties. And for anyone experienced with computer systems such as Word, Excel or Sage it’s possible to get even more involved.

Finally, the building itself needs regular TLC. Our volunteer Caretaker has all the skills required for ongoing maintenance projects, but has only one pair of hands!  So help is often needed with preparation and painting/decorating, carpentry jobs and general repairs.

So how much commitment does it take to be a volunteer?  Well, hours in a venue like this can be very flexible – most of our volunteers put in a few hours per week – so anyone with a bit of time to spare can be of help.  The key thing is regularity and consistency.

Volunteers can also be given set projects, working under the supervision of senior volunteers, where they may be required to put in a block of time for a limited period, say, a day or two per week for one or two months.  Examples of this are most likely to occur in the building/maintenance, office and publicity areas. This could be an ideal ‘summer filler’ or between-jobs activity and can really add to a CV!

Whenever we need extra volunteers we will post an ad in the Volunteer Vacancy section of the website, so keep reading, or give us a call on 01453 767576.
