This September we lost our wonderful daughter, Esme, to a rare and extremely aggressive cancer, a soft tissue sarcoma called CIC DUX 4.
Days ahead of her 14th birthday she passed away, despite a year of extensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
While Esme fought her hardest, there are currently few treatment options and due to the rarity of the disease no pharmaceutical companies focus on it. Sadly, that means that there is very little hope for patients diagnosed with this.
We promised our daughter that we would not stop working until we had found more effective treatment, so others do not have to suffer as she did. We are now raising money to fund a dedicated researcher to look solely at CIC DUX 4 and its response to treatments.
We aim to raise £200,000 to fund a dedicated laboratory researcher for the next three years. We have financed the first year and the target amount will pay for a further two years.
My family have been incredibly grateful for the support and kindness received.
