Regardless of the age at which we started, and whatever the distance covered, from park run to ultramarathon, running is a way a life for many of us – a non-negotiable activity that not only boosts our fitness but our mental health and focus too.
To discuss running as a way of being, with Stroud’s own ultrarunner and author Sabrina Pace-Humphreys, we welcome two giants of competitive running who have also written brilliantly about everything that running does for them.
Richard Askwith is the award-winning author of six books including “Feet in the Clouds”, his modern classic on fell running. His new book, “The Race Against Time: Adventures in Late Life Running” charts his personal quest for the secrets of happy, healthy, whole life running and promises to change the way you think about growing older.
Susie Chan is an icon of endurance running who takes on races of all distances, is a veteran of several Marathon des Sables and runs 100-mile non-stop races. And yet as she charts in her compelling and sensationally honest book “Trails and Tribulations”, she didn’t start running until she was 35, and has overcome obstacles along the way including cataracts and a cancer diagnosis.
