Around 12.7 million tonnes of plastic are entering the ocean every year, killing over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals. By 2050 there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish by weight. Plastic pollution is the environmental scourge of our age, but how can we make a difference?
To tell us how, we’re delighted to welcome Will McCallum, Head of Oceans at Greenpeace and spokesperson for its anti-plastics campaign; and the author of accessible consumer guide “How to Give Up Plastic”. He’ll be giving us lots of advice on small changes that can add up to make a big difference, from buying a reusable coffee cup and running a clean-up at your local park; to lobbying your local supermarket on unnecessary packaging and throwing a plastic-free birthday party.
Joining Will is Claudi Williams from Stroud Valleys Action on Plastic (SVAP), and the author of blog, Living Without Plastic. She’ll be telling us about initiatives already taking place in the Stroud area, and how you can get involved locally and do your bit to help end our global dependence on plastic.
