Talk by Professor Paul Rogers with Judith Large
Interview with Jonathon Porritt plus Q and A
Personal insecurity and disempowerment are widespread in these times of rapid-fire news and misinformation (amplified by social media) along with concerns such as the cost of living, housing, health and climate change. There is dismay at global inequalities and suffering, plus the failure to resolve desperate wars such as Ukraine, Sudan and Gaza. But Paul Rogers argues that upping hard militarism and more arms only deepens the insecurity trap we are in. With a clear direction on what can be done, he will:
- Analyse the insecurity trap we are in, and how to get out of it
- Asks how we can tackle the challenges of the climate crisis, an unjust economic system and a reliance on military solutions to complex human problems
- Engage those concerned about climate breakdown, poverty amidst plenty and ongoing wars with discussing ‘What can be done?
Paul Rogers is Professor Emeritus of Peace Studies at Bradford University. He foretold 9/11 and is a respected global authority on security. Judith Large is a Senior Research Fellow at CARC, University of Kent, with thirty years work in conflict zones and post-war recovery settings. Stroud’s MP, Dr Simon Opher will respond.
The Insecurity Trap is published by Hawthorn Press, Stroud, illustrations by Joe Magee. We will donate from this event to the Campaign Against the Arms Trade
