Volunteer

We are a small charity and like many places we’ve struggled to keep our head above water in recent years. But we’ve survived! Now need volunteers to help with the many tasks involved in bringing this great community venue back to full health.

Volunteers can get involved in:

Making the Hall look good – Setting out the Hall ready for events. It’s so important that the Hall looks attractive and welcoming.

Publicity  Keeping on-site displays looking good can really make a difference. Distributing posters around town helps too.

Administration  The office is the heart of the venue. Help is always needed here with reception, email answering and general admin.

Technical – Helping the Venue Technician to keep the sound and lighting equipment in good shape. Each event can call for a different set up so there’s always something to do here.

Maintenance – The building needs regular TLC so help if often needed with painting, decorating, carpentry jobs and general repairs.

So how much commitment does it take to be a volunteer?  Well, hours in a venue like this can be very flexible – most of our volunteers put in a few hours per week or fortnight – so anyone with a bit of time to spare can be of help.  The key thing is regularity and reliability.

Volunteers can also be given project work where they may put in a block of time for a limited period, say, a day or two per week for a couple of months.   This could be an ideal ‘summer filler’ or ‘between-jobs’ activity and can really add to a CV.

Trustee/Management Vacancy

We have a vacancy for a Trustee and/or member of the Management Team. These are volunteer positions for people with appropriate skills and experience.

How are we set up? The building is owned by Stroud Town Council and the venue is run by a registered charity with a small Board of Trustees, a part-time paid member of staff, some self-employed casual staff and a bunch of committed volunteers.  Trustees need to be able to get actively involved, typically taking responsibility for, or advising on, a particular area of the business,

We are now looking for someone to join the Management Team initially, – and potentially to become a Trustee – helping to promote the venue more widely and assist with fundraising ideas and initiatives.  We currently devote on average 6 hours a week to keeping our website up to date and making regular social media posts, but there’s a lot more work to be done to make this community resource more visible to all, so someone with an interest in marketing could really make a difference.

Other areas where Trustee support is welcomed include Finance and Human Resources, so if your skills match any of these we would also like to hear from you

If you would like to be involved, can offer us your expertise and can make the time commitment, please contact Jo Bousfield, Trustee  info@lansdownhall.org
